Malaysia Airlines bounces back in Australia

Malaysia Airlines is back on its growth path in Australia according to the latest International Airline Activity report released by the Australian Government.

The full-service carrier achieved a 7.8 per cent increase in passenger numbers in February 2015, ahead of where it was in the same period in 2014.

Malaysia Airlines’ Regional Senior Vice President, PK Lee, said while there is still more work to do to continue growing in Australia, it is encouraging to see the community regaining faith in the airline as a world class operation.

“This is our main market outside of Malaysia and connecting our continents is our ultimate goal. We have been flying in and out of Australia for more than 40 years and are committed to helping this region build closer ties with Asia for mutual benefit,” Mr Lee said.

Partnering with bestselling author and MasterChef favourite Poh Ling Yeow and tennis superstar Nick Kyrgios, both with strong Malaysian heritage, is a key strategy in the rejuvenation of Malaysia Airlines in Australia.

To celebrate the collaboration with Nadal and Federer-slayer Kyrgios, the airline is running a one-off competition until the end of May offering fans the opportunity to win a Business Class trip to the Wimbledon Men’s Grand Final staying in luxury at the Hilton London Green Park. Other prizes include trips to Kuala Lumpur and autographed tennis merchandise.

Mr Lee said the promotion has been very popular, evidenced by a leap in bookings, and tennis buffs and avid travellers need to get in quick to be in the hunt.
