Thousands of delicious fresh home-grown Australian Bananas will be handed out to cyclists during the National Ride2Work Day on Wednesday 15 October 2014, to encourage them to ditch unhealthy processed food and energy drinks and go for nature’s long lasting energy snack instead.
Ride2Work Day encourages Australians to commute to work by bike and as proud event sponsor, the Australian Bananas industry will distribute the country’s favourite fruit to registrants at City Square and Docklands to give cyclists a much needed muscle fuel top-up.
Inspiring athlete, banana lover and Queensland NRL star full-back, Billy Slater, said he is thrilled to be working with the Australian Banana industry and is encouraging Aussies to lead healthy, active lifestyles with the launch of two fitness videos to celebrate his 10 year partnership with Nature’s Long Lasting Energy Snack.
“Part of my routine includes having a home-grown banana to keep my energy levels up and to help me stay focused. So if you want to stay on top of your game, ditch the no-nos and go for a na-na.”
“I work with the best footy players in Australia, so it’s essential for me to be in the fittest condition I can be. It’s also important to enjoy your workouts and have fun, so that’s what my videos are all about,” Billy said.
Accredited Practising Dietitian Glenn Cardwell said the brilliant banana is the perfect pick-me-up for athletes of all skills and levels, and a great healthy snack alternative to highly-processed options.
“Experiencing a sudden lack of energy during exercise is common. Even if you are fit and healthy, poor food choices before you compete can really slow you down. For the best performance you have to use the best quality fuels,” he said.
